We adopted a sign from the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor… you can too!

20 Jan

Have you signed up for the e-newsletter provided by the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor?

I did and that’s how I found out about their super cool program to adopt a Lincoln Highway sign!

For only fifty dollars you can adopt a sign for three years.  This helps the LHHC to pay for the upkeep and insurance on each of the approximately 200 signs along the Corridor.

When I participated in the cross country tour in 2003, my dad was along for the ride from NYC (through Lancaster) :) all the way back here to Ohio.  So, I thought that adopting a sign in his name would be a fun idea for Christmas.  I spoke with Kristin at the LHHC.  She was very friendly and even asked if we had a preferred location.  Of course, I asked for something in the vicinity of Grandview Point.

When we received our packet in the mail, this is what we got…

(My dad’s sign is the one highlighted in yellow, closest to the top of the map.)

Uh, we also got one of these, but I forgot to take a picture of it.  :)

Hopefully someday my dad and I will be able to travel to where his sign is located.  If we do, you can be sure I’ll let you all know.

Until then, here’s the the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, and here’s to you…

Great to see that other people are interested in America’s historic highways as well! (I think it’s really cool also that your sign is near my hometown of Cumberland, Md.

I’m working on my own blog on U.S. 40 and the National Road, and it seems like you have a successful blog that is similar to the concept of my own. Have you found it difficult to keep up with creating new posts?

(By the way, my blog is http://exploreroute40.wordpress.com/ , if you’re interested.) Thanks!

    Hi Matt!

Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes, I think it’s a challenge to come up with new posts, but one that I’m happy to undertake. Logistically speaking, there is only so far that I can travel in one day and I’m always starting from the same place! This forces me to be a bit more creative and delve into things that are located nearer to me a bit more closely. And it gives me the incentive to do things that I’ve always wanted to but have never taken the time to experience like, for instance, visiting the L.A. City Diner in downtown Canton or going to the Massillon Museum (which is going to be my next close to home trip– hopefully this weekend!). But more exciting it gives me something to look forward to when I have the means and opportunity to travel a bit farther down the road.

I’m definitely looking forward to the upcoming convention because it’s 20 minutes away from my home town. And I’m looking forward to next year’s Centennial festivities and hoping that I can join them in some shape or form. What can I say, I’m a geek in love with this road.

Good luck to you and your blog. I’ll be sure to visit it either soon or (if my battery dies as I think it’s going to) in the very near future.

    Cheers!

    Jamie
