Pie is brain food, right?

Pie is brain food, right?

Today I had my last exam of the semester in American Sign Language.  I was working in Orrville which, you know, is kinda sorta almost on the Lincoln Highway and not too far from Massillon.  Awhile back I had asked on facebook for good places to go for breakfast along the Lincoln Highway.  And, by the way, to anyone reading this blog, I pose the same question…

Well, anyways, the folks at the Massillon Museum suggested that I try the Top of the Viaduct Restaurant, however, it took me until today to finally make it that far but I needed a place to sit and study for awhile so I thought I’d give it a try.

Here’s the restaurant and by the way I should let you know that this picture was taken after lunch.  When I got there, the whole parking lot was full and I got the last spot on this side.  I should probably also mention that they are located at 607 Lincoln Way W., Massillon, OH 44647 and their phone number is 330-832-8292.

Here’s a few pictures of the menu…

Here are a few pictures of the inside of the restaurant…

Here’s my reading material.

Oh, and let’s not forget the view out the windows.

If you’re still with me, now we get to the good stuff.

For the sake of the blog I ordered a cup of the Boom-Boom Bean Soup.  And I have to say that, being a connoisseur of bean soup, this was one of the best bean soups that I have ever eaten.  It had such an interesting blend of flavors as it was slightly smoky, slightly sweet, and slightly salty.  Totally delicious.

Next I ordered the Cheeseburg which came with fries.

After all that I was pretty well stuffed, but everyone around me seemed to be ordering pie so I figured it was the thing to do.  I asked my waitress to decide for me between the chocolate peanut butter, custard, and chocolate pie.  She chose chocolate and she was sooooo right.

Now, looking at this picture you might get the wrong impression of this humble little pie.  But let me assure you that this is truly THE BEST CHOCOLATE PIE EVER.  No, no one is paying me to say this.  They probably didn’t even notice that I was there except for wondering why there was some strange woman taking pictures of her food.  But I can’t urge you strongly enough to go and try this pie.

And, since I was at the Top of the Viaduct Restaurant I figured I should stroll on over to the viaduct itself.

How many times have we (locals) driven past this sign and never knew what it actually said?  (If you click on the picture it will enlarge so that you can read it.)  It’s pretty neat, I think.

Here’s the view of the restaurant from the other side.  There’s a tiger under the sign but I didn’t realize how hard he was to see until I got home.  So, dad, if you don’t believe me (yeah, right) you’ll just have to drive over there yourself and check it out. :)

And, last but not least since we all know that I have a fascination with old service stations, I thought I’d throw in a picture of this gem which is simply lovely and only two doors down.

So, until we meet again here’s to the chocolate pie and here’s to the road…
