MassMu is waiting for you! (part one)

MassMu is waiting for you! (part one)

I finally made it to the Massillon Museum yesterday!  Because the slideshow gods aren’t with me today, I’m going to divide this into two different posts.  This first post will be about the museum except for Immel’s Circus and the second post will be on Immel’s Circus alone.

Following are quite a few pictures from the current exhibit on the first floor.  I loved looking at all  of the old dresses and was surprised to find that a few of them were actually new!  See if you can guess which ones are ‘modern’ and which ones aren’t.  (Hint: the information sheets provided are included for some of the dresses and all of the new ones so that you can tell for sure.)

Next I went upstairs to the second floor.

I really liked the Massillon Tigers exhibit, although, I wasn’t very good at the photo opportunity and I certainly don’t match up to a football player. :)

Here’s a little slideshow of the room that the circus is housed in…

Next I went down to the lower level where I met Harvey and Oscar.

There were footprints to show me the way!

Here’s Harvey and his regiment. :)

I loved this next picture.  The caption says that it’s a reunion of all the soldiers with a painting that they had commissioned of Harvey so that he would always be with them when they assembled as a group.

This is Oscar.  (I don’t think he’s a grouch!)

So, stay tuned for my next post from the Massillon Museum featuring Immel’s Circus!

The McKinley Memorial is magnificent!

The McKinley Memorial is magnificent!

Well, I had planned to explore the Massillon Museum this weekend.  However, since this is Ohio, you never know whether or not the weather will cooperate and I didn’t have any luck getting there.  Fortunately, though, I took these shots of the McKinley Memorial awhile ago and was going to wait until I had time to visit the McKinley Library and Presidential Museum but I’ll save that visit for another post.

The McKinley Memorial commemorates the 25th president of the United States of America.  Construction on this beautiful building began in 1905 and was completed by 1907.  It is located at 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, Canton, Ohio, 44708 which is less than 1/2 mile off of the Lincoln Highway.  The monument is closed during the winter.  Sometime when it’s open, though, I’ll return and explore it further as well as the Museum right next door.  For now, here’s a look at the monument from the outside.  And, yes, I did climb all 108 steps.  (Yet another reason I’m entitled to try out desserts when I’m out on a blogging mission.) :D

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

So, until the weather clears again, here’s to the road and here’s to you…  Stay warm!

Massillon Afternoon

Massillon Afternoon

Yesterday when saying goodbye Lydia I had a bit of trouble and ended up hurting my hand.  It wasn’t anything too severe, but it was enough to give me an excuse to rest it for the day and instead of working I went out exploring.

The Lincoln Highway runs across Route 30 through downtown Massillon and then takes off on Route 172.

When I was downtown I stopped in at The Attic Resale Store.

I was instantly drawn to the impressive Massillon Public Library.

Right down the street from the library is the Lincoln Theatre.

There are several very cool and very lifelike murals in downtown Massillon.

The Massillon Museum has both a Control Station and an original concrete marker located in front of it.

Here’s some random artwork/architecture that I liked.

And, last I leave you with quite a few pictures of the Lincoln Professional Building. :)

Until we meet again, here’s to the road and here’s to you, too.
